Baby Granny Beanie and Sockies Set

Baby Granny Set

It’s 101 degrees Fahrenheit today. Let’s make a baby hat and bootie set that will be nice for summer. The yarn I am using is Lion Brand “Lion Cotton” 100% Cotton. The traditional granny stitch is a cluster of 3, I am doing a cluster of 2 for smaller holes because these are baby size.

8/18/15 update – I want to make sure that my patterns are different than what you can find anywhere else. What makes this Granny Beanie unique is that it is done seamlessly and in a spiral. I am continuing to make different versions so at the end of this page you will find another rendition.

Use H-hook (5 mm) for 0-3 mos [Hat width 6.5″, Hat height 5.5″]

Use I-hook (5.5mm) for 3-6 mos [Hat width 7.25″, Hat height 6″]

Round 1: In adjustable circle, Ch 2, 9 hdc, close tight and sl st to the 2nd ch. (10 sts)

Round 2: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same st, working over tail, 2 hdc in next 9 sts. Do not sl st close. (total 20 sts)

Round 3: Around the ch 3 of the previous round, 2 hdc in this same space, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st*, repeat this 3 stitch set * to *8 more times. (total 30 sts)

Round 4: In next st, *2 hdc, 1 hdc in next 2 sts* Repeat this 4 st set * to * 9 more times (total of 40 sts)

Round 5: Put a stitch marker here. *Sk 1 st, 2 hdc in next st*, repeat * to * 19 more times.

Round 6: Sk 1 st, 2 hdc in next sp between clusters* Repeat * to * 19 more times.

Round 7-10: Continue to repeat round 6 until length is 4.75″ if you are doing size 0-3 mos or 5.25″ if you are doing size 3-6 mos.

Round 11-12: Skip 1st st. 1 hdc around for 2 rows. End 5sts before end of row, see stitch marker for knowing where the end is. So 4 sc, then 1 sl st. Finish off and weave in ends.

0-3 months 3.75″ foot use an F-hook (3.75 mm)

3-6 months 4″ foot use a G-hook (4.25 mm)

Toe

Round 1: Ch 7, 1 hdc in 3rd ch from the hook, 1 hdc in next 3 chs, 3 hdc in last ch. Working on underside of chains and working over yarn tail, 1 hdc in next 3 chs, 1 hdc in last ch. Carefully snip any extra length of the tail at this point. Sl st in 3rd ch from the hook (12 sts total) Note, this will not make a flat oval but should resemble an oval cup for the little toes to be inside.

Round 2: Ch 2, 1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in last st. Sl st to 3rd ch (16 sts total)

Foot

Round 3: Ch 3, 1 dc in same ch, *sk st, 2 dc in same ch*, repeat * to * 6 more times.  Sl st in 3rd ch. (you will have 8 clusters of 2 dc or 16 sts total)

Round 4: Ch 3 (this chain 3 will be half of the last cluster), *skip 1 st, 2 dc in sp between clusters*. Repeat * to * 6 more times.  Sk 1 st, 1 dc in last sp. Sl st to 3rd ch. (8 clusters, 16 sts)

Round 5: Ch 3, 1 dc in the sp next to the ch 3 to make 1 cluster. *Sk 1 st, 2 dc in sp between clusters*, repeat * to * 7 more times. Sl st in 3rd ch. (8 clusters, 16 sts)

Heel

Round 6: 1 sl to the left, ch 2. Turn work. 1 hdc in the next 9 sts. (Total of 10 sts, 6 sts should be untouched)

Round 7: Ch 2, turn work, 1 hdc in next 9 sts. (10 sts)

Round 8: Ch 2, turn work, 1 hdc in next 9 sts. Finish off with 8″ tail. turn Work Inside out.  Fold heel part in half and with tail, sew up heel to make a slipper shoe. Turn back inside out again.(10 sts) [Note, if you don’t want to finish off, just sl st to close down one side of heel and sl st back the other side of the heel.]

We want to make another 8 clusters around the ankle. At top of shoe you can see clearly there are 4 spaces to make 4 clusters but the heel is hard to figure out so you will have to eye it to make 4 evenly spaced clusters on the heel (2 on each side).

Round 9:  Attach yarn to heel part about 1 ch to the left of heel seam. If your yarn is still attached, sl st one time to the left. To attach yarn, make a slip knot and put loop through the chain you want to start from ch 3, 1 dc in same loop to make one cluster. *sk 1 st, 2 dc in same sp*, repeat * to * 6 more times, sl st into 3rd ch.

Ankle Cuff

Round 10: Ch 3, 1 dc  in next 16 sts including small sp at the end. Sl st into 3rd ch. (total 16 sts) Finish off and weave in all tails.

Ankle Cuff

Round 10:  Attach yarn near heel seam. To attach yarn, make a slip knot and put loop through the chain you want to start at then ch 3. The front of the sock has 8 clear sts to hdc into, the heel part does not so you have to figure out how to space 7 sts at the heel. One at the seem and 3 on each side.
