HAND: Knit only. Knit 5.25” for Kids, Knit 6” for Women/Teens and Knit 6 3/4” for Men measuring from the end of palm where the cuff ends and where you began stockinette stitch

DECREASE:  Close up top of mitten like a top of hat.

K1, sl same st to right needle and rearrange stitches so there is the same amount on each needle.

Large size start with *K5, k2tog* – 6 times (36 sts remain)

Knit 1 row between each decrease row

Medium size start with *K4, k2tog* six times (30 sts)

Small size start with *K3, k2tog* six times (24 sts)

*K2, k2tog* six times (18 sts)

*K1, k2tog* six times (12 sts)

*K2tog* six times (6 sts)

Cut yarn leaving a 8” tail and with a large needle, slip yarn through remaining stitches and pull to close up mitten. Draw needle and end of yarn to inside of mitten and weave in ends really well so you can wash mitten and you won’t feel any knots.

THUMB: Put stitches on 3 double pointed needles and adding new yarn with a 8” tail inside, pick up 2 stitches above the thumb where there is excess space with one of the needles. For size Small you should have a total of 10 sts and knit 10 rows, for size Medium you should have a total of 12 stitches and knit 12 rows and for size Large you should have a total of 14 stitches and knit 14 rows.  The last row should be closed up by *K2tog* all around. With large needle, go through remaining sts and close up thumb. Stick needle through center hole and weave in tail end well from the inside.  Weave in all ends neatly, using the whole tail, so you do not see any gaps or holes and will go through the wash without unraveling.
